Degree symbols are used for various purposes. However, there are some general rules for using degree marks. There are rules for using degree symbols when writing such a temperature. There are also some rules for using the degree symbol in the space after or before the Degree sign.

Spacing with the degree symbol

Many people say that they think about giving space when using the degree sign. Many people refuse to give space. So there’s so much confusion about it. 

Types to Write Degree Sign:

• one space before the degree symbol.
• one space after the degree symbol.
• Without space degree symbol.

Examples:

• 98 °C (one space before  the degree symbol)
• 90° F (one space after the degree symbol)
• 60°F(Without space  degree symbol)

But if you are a student, then you should ask your teacher which style to follow. If your teacher says to give space while using that sign, then follow this rule. If your teacher says not to give space, then follow this rule. 

If you write the degree symbol on any simple piece of work, then it doesn’t matter which style you choose to follow.

According to Cochrane Comunity:

For degrees of arc, the degree symbol follows the number without any intervening space, e.g. 43°. For temperature, there is a space between the number and the degree symbol, but no space between the degree symbol and the letter that indicates the scale being used, e.g. 100 °C, 212 °F.

Note: degree symbols are not used for temperatures measured on the Kelvin scale, e.g. 373.15 K.
